Pompeii - since year 79 AD

A visit to the Amalfi Cost must include a trip to Pompeii.  Buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on August 24, in the year 79 AD.  Another wonder of the world we think of as "ancient" but I am surprised by how resourceful humans were back before there were the modern resources we have today. They accomplished a lot without Home Depot and Walmart.

The artifacts room is filled with pottery excavated from the 100 acre site that is Pompeii. When hollow spaces were found they were injected with liquid plaster and allowed to harden.  When the shell was removed the object could be seen.  Thus, we see human shapes in their final moments.

For those of you who are dog lovers, there are a lot of ferrell dogs lounging around Pompeii.  They have always been welcome in Pompeii and sleep in the shade with hundreds of people around like nothing is happening.  Our guide told us there has never been a problem with any of the dogs.  The guards at the site feed and take care of them.

The frescoes are interesting.  Our guide ponted out that the frescoes show "depth" which is a demension that was thought to have appeared in art hundreds of years later.  But, Pompeii shows it was a technique that was known and then lost for centuries before reappearing.
